The McKay Education Building is a 63,500 SF renovation of a 1960s classroom facility once defined by maze-like circulation, limited daylight, and a heavy concrete frame. The project transforms the four-story building into a light, open, and flexible environment that supports collaborative learning, through open-minded exploration, imagination, empowerment, and experimentation. It also houses a Children’s School, with optimized classroom layouts. Clear wayfinding distinguishes entries for the Education Building and the Children’s School, while interior color palettes differentiate college student and children’s areas. Overall, the renovation creates a contemporary, flexible learning environment supporting multiple pedagogies in both higher and early childhood education.
