PLANNER Level 2 (6+ YEaRS EXPERIENCE) - Utah OFFICE

We have an immediate opening, in our Salt Lake City Office, for a Planning Analyst with 6+ years of experience to join our planning practice. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of planning, GIS, research, data, and visual communication.

 

The Planning Analyst  is responsible for major analytical components of planning projects, including GIS, market and demographic research, facilities planning, land use analysis, data visualization, and planning research. This role requires someone with strong technical skills and insight and understanding into how analytical results impact strategies and influence recommendations.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead major analytical components of planning, urban design, and related multidisciplinary projects.

  • Plan and execute GIS analysis, market and demographic research, facilities assessments, land use analysis, data visualization, and other technical work.

  • Define analytical approaches, identify data needs, establish workflows, and implement quality-control procedures.

  • Interpret analysis and translate findings into meaningful planning recommendations and project strategies.

  • Prepare and direct the development of maps, dashboards, charts, exhibits, inventories, technical findings, and other analysis-based deliverables.

  • Present technical findings to project teams and clients.

  • Manage analytical tasks or analysis-heavy projects, including scope, schedule, budget, assumptions, data requirements, and deliverables.

  • Coordinate analytical work with planners, architects, landscape architects, designers, consultants, and other disciplines.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other staff in GIS, mapping, data analysis, market research, facilities analysis, and visual communication.

  • Support business development efforts by helping develop analytical approaches, technical methodologies, proposal content, and interview materials.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • 6+ years of relevant professional experience.

  • Bachelor's degree in planning, geography, GIS, urban studies, economics, real estate, data analytics, or a related field; or a master's degree in a related field.

  • Advanced experience using GIS and analytical tools within a professional planning, design, development, government, or consulting environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently develop and execute analytical approaches.

  • Experience interpreting complex data and translating findings into actionable recommendations.

  • Experience managing technical tasks, workstreams, schedules, and deliverables.

  • Ability to communicate technical findings clearly to both technical and nontechnical audiences.

  • Strong written, graphic, and verbal communication skills.

 Preferred Skills

  • Certification in GIS

  • GIS integration in Revit and other software

 This is a full-time, salaried position with benefits. Salary is competitive and dependent upon experience. GSBS values and prefers in-person collaboration but gives employees the flexibility to work from non-office locations at times and when effective and coordinated with project, team, and firm needs.
