The town of Escalante lies near the unique riparian environment of the Escalante River. Visitors to the Escalante Science Center will learn about the biological sciences. The Escalante Science Center is a LEED Gold Certified building designed to utilize local materials and labor. The structural system was designed to utilize lumber from the local lumber mill. Exterior stone is local. The interpretive exhibits explain the Monument and the green aspects of the building. The building harvests rain and daylight, uses evaporative cooling, radiant heating, houses a photovoltaic array and is powered 100% by wind. It is a zero carbon building.
