PLANNER Level 1 (3+ YEaRS EXPERIENCE) - Utah Office

GSBS is an award-winning, inter-disciplinary design and planning firm with a collaborative culture that supports career growth and advancement within the firm. We have an immediate opening, in our Salt Lake City Office, for a Planning Analyst with 3+ experience to join our planning practice. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of planning, GIS, research, data, and visual communication.

The Planning Analyst will support project teams through data, mapping, market research, facilities analysis, and other technical tools to understand project areas and sites. This role goes beyond producing maps. We are looking for someone who can interpret information, identify patterns, and help translate analysis into meaningful planning and design decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Support projects through GIS analysis, mapping, market and demographic research, facilities analysis, plan review, precedent research, and data organization.

  • Independently complete mapping and analytical assignments using tools such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Business Analyst, spreadsheets, dashboards, and other data platforms.

  • Collect, organize, analyze, and interpret quantitative and qualitative information.

  • Develop maps, charts, exhibits, inventories, dashboards, summary graphics, and other analysis-based materials for client presentations, public engagement, internal work sessions, and final reports.

  • Translate technical information into clear findings that support planning recommendations and project decision-making.

  • Coordinate with planners, designers, consultants, and other disciplines to gather and interpret project data.

  • Manage assigned tasks within established project schedules, budgets, and scopes.

  • Support proposals and interviews by contributing GIS, research, data, and technical content.

  • Provide basic technical guidance to other staff as appropriate.

Minimum Requirements

  • 3+ years of relevant professional experience.

  • Bachelor's degree in planning, geography, GIS, urban studies, economics, real estate, data analytics, or a related field. 

  • Demonstrated experience with GIS-based analysis and mapping.

  • Ability to organize, analyze, and communicate complex information clearly.

  • Ability to independently manage technical assignments and coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams.

  • Strong written, graphic, and verbal communication skills.

 Preferred Skills

  • Certification in GIS

This is a full-time, salaried position with benefits. Salary is competitive and dependent upon experience. GSBS values and prefers in-person collaboration but gives employees the flexibility to work from non-office locations at times and when effective and coordinated with project, team, and firm needs.
