Date Completed: 2010

The new Hillside Middle School is being built to replace a 50 year old building. One of the most important considerations to the school community was finding a way for the existing school to remain operational during construction of the new building.

Therefore, the design team was challenged with devising a site plan that would accommodate both new and old buildings at once, serving short term desires, while designing a floor plan that would best fulfill the long term mission of the school. The resulting design incorporates an L-shaped circulation path with four distinct classroom houses facing the neighborhood and the larger gymnasium and auditorium volumes behind.
